Niessner also completed musical analysis of the stage works by Mozart (cyclical) and Handel.

He has presented projects about Alban Berg: Wozzeck, Lulu (problem of Act 3), Pelléas et Mélisande.


Advised on the choice of text and dramaturgy, as well as production of shortened versions of libretti.

Wolfgang Niessner has coached me extensively as part of my first opera projects, from which I benefit very much today.

Not only his profound introduction to conducting technique, but also his extensive knowledge about composition, style, formal layout and dramaturgy of a work, stylistical playing of basso continuo, timbres and their balance – all in the service of the affect and inspired by his longstanding cooperation with Nikolaus Harnoncourt – gave me the necessary basis for the musical work in the field of opera.
